Indie-pop duo Sunrise Academy Band has just released their new single First Times, a track soaked in the warmth of nostalgia and the magic of young love. In a recent chat, the band opened up about the inspiration behind the song, their long-distance creative process, and how this track ties into the vision for their upcoming EP.
Capturing the Spark of New Beginnings
The band describes First Times as an attempt to bottle the feeling of a budding relationship — that fluttery, electric moment when everything is new. “It’s about the beginnings of a relationship, that tingly feeling you remember,” they explain. “We wanted to have it feel nostalgic and also classic.”
Creating Across the Miles
While the song sounds effortlessly cohesive, its creation was anything but conventional. “We made it entirely in our room — and to be honest, we made it 170 miles away from each other when we lived in different cities,” they said. Now living together, the duo reflects on the process fondly: “It was super natural and fun.”
A Vibe, Not a Lesson
When asked about the message behind First Times, the band keeps it simple. “There wasn’t a huge message — we just wanted to evoke that feeling and put it into song format. We hope it transports people.”
Musical Inspirations
The demo was originally titled “Shelly,” a nod to Clairo’s early work and possibly a subtle influence. “So maybe them!” the band says. “But also classic songs,” they add, underscoring the timeless feel they aimed for.
A Warm Reception
Fans have embraced the single with open arms. “They love it! The audience has been so supportive over the last year,” the duo says, grateful for the growing connection with listeners.
Part of a Bigger Picture
First Times isn’t just a standalone single — it fits neatly into the band’s broader vision for their upcoming EP. “The EP is all about growing up and memory,” they reveal. “So it fits into the coming-of-age theme pretty well, we think.”
With heartfelt storytelling, relatable themes, and a DIY spirit, Sunrise Academy Band is carving out a space for themselves in the indie scene — one nostalgic track at a time.
Listen to “First Times” now on all streaming platforms — and no doubt, we’ll be seeing much more from these lads soon.
