Bedfordshire Youth Opera, B.Y.O. is something Bedfordshire can be truly proud of. Running for 42 years, it gives young singers, 14 to 26 year olds, the rare opportunity to be part of a fully staged opera each Summer. Guided by an artistic team of industry professionals, and under the umbrella of the Bedfordshire Music Trust, it really is a remarkable summer course.
This year they have 31 young performers, with the core from Bedfordshire and neighbouring counties, but with some from further afield. B.Y.O. have performers who are at school, drama college, attending conservatoires or those who have graduated. A wonderful mix of experience and talent.
Both artistic director, Fred Broom and vocal director, renowned soprano, Rachel Nicholls started out at B.Y.O. and it is wonderful that they come back each year to inspire the next generation. Add professional musician and composer, Richard Sisson into the mix, as musical director, and it is clear these young performers get a unique and special experience.
Cinderella / Cendrillon by Jules Massenet, 30th August to 2nd September, at Polhill Theatre at the University of Bedfordshire, Bedford.
